Tokaj wines are known for their magical, captivating taste which earned them their nickname as “the nectar of kings”. Grapes for sweet wines are hand-picked in November, well after the normal harvesting season and carry a not-so-well-kept secret: they are overripe and dried our by the Botritis cinerea fungus, which dehydrates the crop, increasing its sugar content and gracing it with a unique aromatic palette.
